SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Services this position manages and oversees the implementation and administration of Human Resources programs and policies that support the CVC’s business strategy in the areas of employment law, performance management, pension and benefits, salary administration, recruitment, training and development and health and safety.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

·Minimum 7 years experience related to the major tasks

·University degree in Human Resources or related field

·CHRP designation or working towards

·Sound knowledge of employment legislation

·Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to deal with issues in a sensitive, efficient and business-like manner

·Excellent customer service and communication skills

·Good computer skills

·Demonstrated ability to multi-task

·Strong problem-solving skills

 

 

SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS

Perform the following tasks under limited direction.

1.Act as an internal consultant to Directors and CVC staff on all Human Resources matters and issues.

 

2.Ensure compliance with all relevant employment legislation including Employment Standards, Human Rights, Pay Equity, Occupational Health and Safety, etc.

 

3.Work with directors to assist them with Human Resources issues and advise them as required regarding policy, process and legal considerations.

 

4.Counsel employees on work related issues and provide Human Resources guidance and support as needed.

 

5.Supervise and provide leadership to Human Resources Coordinator and Human Resources Assistant, directing work and reviewing performance on a day-to-day basis.

 

6.Oversee the salary administration program including performing job evaluation and market survey reviews.

 

7.Over see the administration of employee pension plan (OMERS) and company-sponsored health benefits program.

 

8.Recommend and develop Human Resources policies and procedures as required.

 

9.Provide advice and guidance to the Health and Safety Committee and management on health and safety-related matters and issues.

 

10.Manage all Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB), short-term disability and long-term disability claims.

 

11.Oversee and participate in the recruitment and selection function, ensuring due diligence in all recruitment and hiring processes.

 

12.Work with Management Team to coordinate corporate training plan and skills inventory.

 

13.Act as the CVC Freedom of Information Coordinator, ensuring all requests and responses made under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act are in compliance with legislation.

 

14.Act as back-up to the Human Resources Coordinator as CVC liaison for outsourced payroll function. 

 

15.Perform other related duties as required.
