Major Responsibilities:

To provide system development services related to the design and navigation (‘user experience’ elements) of the City’s proposed Labour Market Information (LMI) portal. To create design prototypes, including graphic design, site navigation, and layout of content.

.Participates in business requirement gathering, analysis and design to address business opportunities and challenges
.Provides input into assessment, analysis, evaluation and recommendation of design alternatives for web based LMI exchange over the internet
.Coordinates with internal and external groups on accomplishment of deliverables; works with other web colleagues, Corporate IT, e-City  and partner organizations to develop interactive, transactional and multi-media content and shared content that meets LMI user  requirements and which complement the communications solutions provided by the City’s various divisions producing LMI related materials
.Provides support to Data Management teams on transformation of clients’ business requirements as represented by logical data models into physical data models
.Participates in walk-through of deliverables to identify potential problems
.Supports staff in design and implementation of business and data/information requirements into databases or file management systems; recommends and uses the best available web development tools for linking internet based users to the City’s “back end” information delivery programs and databases
.Creates visual concepts that relate back to the creative brief and fit with City brand and creative standards while ensuring that the layout of the content is accessible and logical; recommends improvements, interprets user requirements
.Assists in the screen design of applications so as to maximize user experience, converting business requirements into practical, technical designs for the ingestion of content, delivering technical designs for content feed format
.Prepares test data, test cases and test scripts for system, performance, usability and acceptance testing of system solutions developed
.Tests instructions, and assembles specifications, flow charts, diagrams, layouts, programming and operating instructions to document applications for later modification or reference. Prepares documentation to facilitate transfer of knowledge
.Distils information provided in the form of abstracts and summaries, produces clearly written communication and provides advice in a clear and concise manner for the targeted audience
.Travels to off-site locations
Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

.Demonstrated experience in web site design, construction, navigation and maintenance, with a thorough understanding of web design principles, including usability, interface design and good site architecture.
.Considerable programming experience in XHTML, CSS, VBScript, JavaScript and DHTML as well as image editing and graphic design skills.
.Experience with corporate branding initiatives, layout, colour theory and typography in both print and digital media.
.Experience managing complex projects.
You must also have:

.Superior knowledge of traditional and current web-design trends, techniques and emerging media technologies, including web 2.0, and a grasp of web design and online media issues.
.Strong interpersonal and excellent verbal and written communication skills (i.e. presentations, report writing, liaison, correspondence) and the ability to effectively communicate complex technical ideas and concepts at all organizational levels.
.An understanding of the capabilities of web browsers across multiple platforms, navigational issues and the constraints involved in designing for online media.
.Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others in a multidisciplinary team environment.
.Proven commitment to customer service, performance quality and continuous improvement.
.Good skills and/or knowledge of products such as C# and SQL Server would be considered an asset.
.A related post secondary degree, diploma or certificate would be considered an asset.
 
Status: Temporary (Full-Time), 6 – 8 months

Salary: $31.45 – $34.77 per hour (2008 Rates)
