Technical Officer, Analytical Chemist, NRC
(Taken direct from the NRC careers)
NRC Institute for Nutrisciences and Health (NRC-INH)
Charlottetown – Prince Edward Island
The Institute of Nutrisciences and Health (INH) is seeking an analytical/organic chemist who possesses significant chemistry skills and experience to provide analytical method development, technical expertise and data analysis (as directed) to support internal INH/NRC and external collaborative research projects/programs. The candidate will be expected to design, plan, and carry out his/her responsibilities using state-of-the-art analytical chemistry equipment including CE-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, NMR, FTIR, SPR and contact angle goniometry. For internal projects, the research will be focused on the application of surface chemistry for improved electrophoresis separations, biomaterial development and drug delivery applications. The candidate will be familiar with the synthesis, purification and characterization of organic molecules and polymers especially those relating to the preparation of thin films on surfaces. Additionally, he/she will conduct collaborative and/or fee for service research projects with corporate clients or other research groups within the NRC-INH and at other NRC Institutes.
Education
The candidate must posses a master’s degree in chemistry or biochemistry or equivalent.
Experience
.Significant practical experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory using modern separation and characterization technologies including mass spectrometry (MS/MS techniques) as well as modern NMR spectroscopy methods for characterization of small molecules and biomolecules.
.Practical experience in the design, synthesis and characterization of organic molecules and/or polymers.
.Significant practical experience using LC-MS and/or CE-MS for separation and characterization of complex mixtures.
.Experience with collaborative projects with academic and/or industrial partners.
.Experience with surface chemistry and the technologies used to characterize surfaces such as BIAcore SPR or surface FTIR considered an asset.
