<strong>Description<br />
</strong> <br />
Investment Management Services (IMS) is staffed by a team of investment professionals who are responsible for overseeing Manulife&#8217;s Common Investment Platform.<br />
 <br />
  Using a stringent selection and review process called i-Watch, the team seeks to identify funds and fund managers that have the potential over the long-run to:<br />
  Deliver strong results through a variety of market cycles.<br />
  Adhere to their investment mandate.<br />
 <br />
The i-Watch process is a valuable resource and is truly unique because the criterion used to evaluate funds is based on quantitative factors (performance and risk characteristics) and qualitative factors (organization, people, process and philosophy).</p>
<p>The result is access to a broad array of best-of-class investment options chosen from the world&#8217;s leading asset managers and spanning every major asset class and investment style.<br />
 <br />
The Investment Management Services Department is currently looking for a dynamic individual to join their team as the Manager of Investment Research and Analysis.  Reporting to the Director, Investment Management Services, the successful candidate will play a key role in selecting and monitoring investment managers as well as providing strategic support to Manulife&#8217;s various Canadian business units.<br />
 <br />
<strong>Responsibilities:</strong><br />
 . Create and maintain various investment-related databases relating to domestic and foreign investment managers such as: qualitative profiles; performance history in various asset classes, etc.<br />
 . Produce investment manager monitoring reports on a quarterly, semi-annual and annual basis.<br />
 . Liaise with and perform in-depth quantitative and qualitative analyses on various domestic and foreign investment management organizations (which will translate into formal ratings and quarterly commentaries).<br />
 . Perform quantitative analysis on domestic and foreign capital markets.<br />
 . Coach and develop an analyst with whom mandate coverage will be shared<br />
 . Lead investment manager searches as required to support the implementation of the &#8220;Common Investment Platform&#8221;.<br />
 . Special projects and other ad-hoc duties as required.<br />
 . Liaise with and service the needs of IMS &#8220;clients&#8221; (i.e. the various areas of Canadian Division).<br />

<strong>Qualifications<br />
</strong> <br />
 . Strong quantitative and analytical skills.<br />
 . Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).<br />
 . Computer literacy in all standard software packages including MS Office and Lotus Notes.<br />
 . Familiarity with other software packages such as BARRA, CPMS, Morningstar Direct, Factset and MS Access will be helpful.<br />
 . Demonstrated project management skills.<br />
 . Ability to meet very tight deadlines.<br />
 . Ability to work independently, but also as part of a team.<br />
 . Coaching skills<br />
 . Ability to think &#8220;outside of the box&#8221;.<br />
 . Ability to deal effectively with uncertainty.<br />
 . Confidence to effectively question senior fund company executives and portfolio managers.<br />
 . Undergraduate university degree (honours or 4 yr.) in a quantitative and/or business discipline.<br />
 . CFA Designation<br />
 . Must have two to three years experience working with the investment management community (both domestic and foreign).<br />
 . A graduate degree (such as an MBA) would also be an asset.</p>

<p>. Reviews, monitors, evaluates and researches established programs to ensure that quality service is provided and meets funder’s and partner&#8217;s obligations</p>
<p>. Develops, liaises and maintains a productive working relationship with other professionals, funders, partners and other service providers</p>
<p>. Ensures that all organizational time lines are met (for grant applications, monthly, quarterly and annual reports, and performance appraisals)</p>
<p>. Researches, develops, prepares, recommends and implements new programs and services</p>
<p>. Responsible for monitoring and controlling budgetary expenses within guidelines of the programs</p>
<p>. Develops and writes funding proposals</p>
<p>. Advocates and promotes the programs and services within and outside the organization to both private and public sector</p>
<p>. Participates in organization meetings and other community meetings</p>
<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p>
<p>. University degree or equivalent and related management experience</p>
<p>. TESL Ontario certified</p>
<p>. 1 year ESL teaching experience is an asset</p>
<p>. Must have experience in staff supervision and administration</p>
<p>. Knowledge of the LINC program and Canadian Language Benchmarks</p>
<p>. Well developed organizational, analytical and decision making skills</p>
<p>. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills</p>
<p>. Demonstrated ability to liaise with community organizations and government</p>
<p>. Knowledge of issues facing foreign trained professionals and employment services</p>
<p>. Sensitive to and aware of the social problems facing immigrants</p>
<p>. Ability to communicate in other languages is an asset</p>
<p>. Proficiency in using Internet, e-mail, and windows environment</p>
